Animal Feeding and Nutrition provides the reader with a basic understanding of animal nutrition including nutrient digestion and metabolism, feed stuff characteristics, and principles for formulating nutritionally balanced diets. The authors discuss animals’ role in ecological balance, environmental stability and sustainable agriculture and food production. The book should be particularly useful to students in the animal sciences and preveterinary medicine. It is a useful source for livestock producers, veterinarians, extension agents and professional animal nutritionists. 
 During the last few decades animal production has changed greatly. The Production performance and technical results have increased considerably, the production efficiency has enhanced and animal health and welfare are currently better than before. These achievement have been accomplished through the understanding and knowledge  of animal nutrition and science.  
 The book contains updated tables showing nutrient require­ments for various types of animals. Several sections of this edition have been revised and expanded in an effort to make a more complete text for a course in animal nutrition. To guide students in learning essential principles and facts concerning subjects presented, study questions and problems have been included. An extensive glossary of animal nutrition and a detailed table of equivalent section provide the reader information and access to terminology. 
 In order to reduce the vast amount of reading necessary for the complete coverage of feeding practices, the authors have selected and condensed subject matter into an outline of four basic topics: 
 1.   Nutrients and digestive systems; 
 2.   Feedstuffs and formulations; 
 3.   Commercial feeds and additives; and 
 4.   Feeding guides and recommendations: swine, beef, dairy, sheep, horses, poultry, dogs and cats. 
 It is hoped that this text can be used by students in combination with additional information obtained from classroom lecture as well as the several textbooks and periodicals available for supplemental reading. In the large and rapidly changing field of livestock nutrition and feeding practices, students should be directed by their instructor to pertinent current scientific literature to amplify the subject matter of this text.
