1. Introduction
Our Maternity Leave Policy is designed to provide support and flexibility during this important time. We are committed to ensuring the health and well-being of our employees as they welcome new family members. This policy reflects our dedication to a balanced and inclusive workplace.
2. Purpose
The main purpose of this policy is to help and accommodate employees who are having a child by offering paid and unpaid maternity leave, ensuring a smooth transition before and after childbirth while retaining job security.
3. Eligibility
3.1. Full-Time
Employees must have completed at least 12 months of continuous service prior to the estimated delivery date.
3.2. Part-time
Employees are eligible for unpaid maternity leave, with prorated benefits based on hours worked and duration of service.
4. Maternity leave Entitlement
4.1. Duration
Up to 12 weeks of paid maternity leave
- Paid leave is available for six weeks prior to and six months following birth.
- Unpaid leave for a further six months is available upon request.
4.2. Additional benefits
Employees may use accumulated vacation or sick leave to extend paid absence if necessary.
5. Application Procedure
5.1. Notification
Employees must notify their direct supervisor and HR at least 30 days before the expected delivery date, or as soon as possible if conditions change.
5.2. Documentation
A medical certificate confirming pregnancy and projected delivery date must be supplied with the leave application form.
5.3. Approval
HR will assess and approve leave requests based on the eligibility of company policy.
6. Job Protection
6.1. Reinstatement
Employees who return from maternity leave will be returned to their old position or a comparable post with equal salary and benefits.
6.2.Non- Discrimination
The company will not discriminate against employees who take maternity leave and their career advancement will not be hampered.
7. Benefit continuation
Health insurance coverage will remain throughout the maternity leave time. Employees are responsible for continuing to pay their half of the premium as usual.
Accrued Benefits
Accrued benefits, such as vacation and sick leave, do not accumulate during unpaid leave but continue to accrue during paid absences.
8. Parental Leave
8.1. Parental Leave
Employees’ partners are entitled to two weeks of paid parental leave to care for the new parent and child.
8.2. Additional Assistance
Flexible working arrangements might be arranged with HR to facilitate an easier return to work.
9. Health and Safety
9.1.Workplace Adjustments
Employees may request temporary changes to their job activities or environment to support their health demands during pregnancy.
9.2.Return to work plan
A return-to-work plan can be created in collaboration with HR to ensure a smooth transition.
10. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed to ensure it remains compliant with legal requirements and best practices. Feedback from employees will be considered in policy updates.
